My songs are based on my life experience. My wife, Unmani is a well known teacher and most of my songs are also based on the expression of Unmani in her meetings, retreats and writings. I use a mixture of styles, classical to reggae, to rock and roll as well as everything in between. I just finished my first album entitled ‘Let it all fall apart’ which will be released on 1st January 2018. I am leading a nomadic life. Together with my wife Unmani and son Sky, I travel the world without having a home base. Wherever we go is our home. That’s why I recorded this album in three different studios in India, England and the Netherlands.

I started playing the guitar at the age of 12. Going to the local music school I learned how to play the classical guitar. At the age of 18, I was accepted at the Conservatory of The Hague in 1983. But being too little self-confident I stopped in 1985 to become a nurse. That theme of not listening to my own voice and not standing in my own authority comes back in some of my songs: ‘I thought that others knew, knew what I should be. It took me a while to see that nobody knows’ and ‘Live your own life, start using your wings and pull your own strings’. I never really abandoned my guitar but after my struggle of trying to fit in but not fitting in, in society, I picked up my guitar more frequently and started playing in bands about ten years later, when I just entered my thirties.

I had written some intrumental pieces already but now I started to write my own songs. Convinced that I could not sing I let others sing my songs. It is only around 2002, when I was already thirty eight that I started to sing. And luckily I listened to a singing teacher at the time: ‘You have such a warm deep voice, stop try to sing high and make use of your lower register’. Together with using my voice more properly I started to use the classical guitar more and more. Coming full circle back to my beloved instrument after playing electric and steel stringed acoustic guitars for years. I started to notice that I somehow touched people with my songs. That gave me the courage to go on, to perform and to record this new album I just finished.
